A few weeks ago, I took my PC to a repair shop to have a new motherboard installed since there is no room in my dorm. After getting the PC back, I noticed that my front USB ports were not working. I proceeded to then reinstall the drivers with no luck. A few days later I needed to check the amount of Video RAM my video card had, so I was poking around in my case. While in there, I noticed this small cord dangling that was leading to the front of the case. As it turns out, the shop had neglected to plug the USB connector into the board itself. The lesson here is to always check your connections.

Today I was asked to take a look at a computer that had a "self test error" on the screen. I knew that this had something to do with a lack of video to the monitor. I checked all of the conections to the computer and found them all to ge secure. Next I asked the person if the computer was turned on, they responded yes. After a quick check, I soon discovered that the problem was easy, the computer was off! Moral of the story: always check the power!
